Celebrating 20 Years of Song

Sweet Sassafras Community Choir was founded by Valerie Ashton on 21 February 2005, under the auspices of the Dandenong Ranges Music Council. The choir was initially directed by Celeste Cleason, then Bronwyn Robinson, followed in 2009 by Chris Riseley, and Jess Nab in 2012. Singers came from across The Hills, Yarra Valley and the outer eastern suburbs, and were soon performing at concerts, celebrations, music festivals and events.

Our current Choir Director, Susy Hull, joined Sweet Sassafras in 2022 bringing her joyful energy, vast musical background, performance and teaching skills, and multi-instrumental experience to the choir. We’re learning lots and having so much fun! Read more about the history of our choir.
